Nizar Jaffer Somji
President & CEO

Nizar J. Somji, M.Eng, P.Eng

A visionary leader and a skillful entrepreneur, Nizar J. Somji’s ability to identify and capitalize on emerging trends led to the success of two enterprises, MatrikonOPC and Jaffer Group of Companies. Nizar possess a solid understanding of key business transactions, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, management and board transitions, global expansion, risk management, financing and capital management, and strategic planning and execution. 

In 1988, Nizar founded Matrikon, a recognized leader specializing in technology for the oil and gas, refining, energy, mining and power industries, where he built a team that grew Matrikon from a one-person operation to a publicly traded, international company. Matrikon employed over 600 employees with customers on six continents and revenues of $90 million. Honeywell acquired Matrikon in 2010 for $145 million.

Nizar is a board of directors member for companies such as EPCOR Utilities Inc., Redline Communications, Zafin, Critical Control Energy Services Corp and University of Alberta.

Alim N. Somji

Alim N. Somji’s serves as Vice President, General Manager and Broker for Jaffer Group of Companies. Managing such a multifaceted role, Alim is responsible for the overarching strategy of Jaffer’s real estate properties, which includes liaising with bankers, contributing to and executing on strategic management decisions, business development, and managing due diligence for Jaffer Developments and Jaffer Hospitality Group.

Alim attended Ivey Business School in London, Ontario where he received honours in Business Administration. Alim thrives on the excitement of building a team and is committed to accelerating Jaffer’s growth and success in the markets served.

Salima Mawani
Vice President, Operations
Salima Mawani, CA

Salima Mawani oversees the strategic and operational direction to all the hospitality and retail assets under the Jaffer umbrella. Salima's strong leadership skills gives her the ability to manage all aspects of Jaffer Hospitality Group including budget planning, managing operational requirements, financial forecasting, liasing with bankers, and strategy execution.

Salima holds a Chartered Accountant (CA) designation and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from University of Alberta. Salima volunteers with the Ismaili Muslim Council for Edmonton as the Honorary Secretary. She also loves to travel, which is a natural fit with her passion for hospitality. 
Shan Shang
Corporate Controller, Vice President Finance

Shan Shang, CPA, CGA

Shan Shang oversees the accounting and financial operations for all of Jaffer’s diverse entities. She leads the accurate and timely production of all financial information including financial statements, cash flow analysis, budgets and forecasts. Shan also provides support to Jaffer’s U.S Division and actively participates in Jaffer’s mergers and acquisitions initiatives.

Shan holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Accounting from the University of Alberta in 2009 and a Certified General Accountant (CGA) professional designation. Shan enjoys being in the midst of the vibrant entrepreneurial Jaffer culture. The leadership that empowers talents, the challenges that enlighten potentials and the opportunities that fulfill the joy of a young professional, are all part of the team that she is proud of being in every day.

Winston Tuttle
Corporate Counsel

Winston Tuttle

Winston Tuttle has acted on behalf of Jaffer Group of Companies' major residential and commercial real estate projects in Alberta and Arizona. Winston manages Jaffer’s mergers and acquisitions, contract negotiations, commercial real estate, corporate governance, and risk management. Prior to joining Jaffer in 2011, Winston operated a practice advising clients on real estate law, estate planning, commercial and insurance disputes, and related litigation.

Winston is an active member of: 

  • Subdivision and Development Appeal Board for the City of Edmonton
  • Canadian Bar Association
  • Business Law and Corporate Counsel sections for 2014-2015
  • Edmonton Community Legal Centre

Mark Shuya
Director, Design and Construction
Mark Shuya, B.Des.

Mark Shuya is the Director of Design and Construction for Jaffer Developments’ commercial projects in the Greater Edmonton Area. Mark oversees the strategic planning, project management, budget development, and the overall construction life cycle. Mark also provides support to residential projects.

With a creative eye for visual design, Mark also supports the implementation and management of strategic marketing and communications activities and ensuring a positive brand and client experience for Jaffer’s various divisions and diverse portfolio of companies. 

Mark attended University of Alberta where he graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Design.

Property Manager

Jan Musani

Jan Musani oversees the daily management of Jaffer properties in the Edmonton Capital Region. She ensures efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of properties as well as maintaining high standards in accordance to Jaffer’s group operations. 

Jan is also Chair of the Edmonton Celebrate Canada Committee and board member of various volunteer organizations including the Edmonton Food Bank and Edmonton Celebrate Canada. Her dedication to community service and volunteerism has been formally recognized with a number of awards including: 

  • Wild Rose Foundation Stars of the Millennium Volunteer Award
  • Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal
  • Alberta Centennial Award
Shenaz Jeraj

Shenaz Jeraj

Shenaz Jeraj has extensive skills and experience in management consulting, information technology management, strategic planning, organization design, business process improvement, program and project management, and change management for a variety of public and private industries. Shenaz's career spans over 30 years in a wide range of sectors including banking, chemical, education, forestry, government, healthcare, and oil and gas. 

Shenaz is an active community member having served in executive positions with the Aga Khan Council and is currently serving as member on: the Board of Governors, University of Alberta; the Advisory Board, Devonian Botanic Gardens; and the Board of Trustees, University Hospital Foundation.

Ally-Khan Pirmohamed

As the Commercial Sales and Leasing Associate, Ally-Khan Pirmohamed has completed a variety of transactions but specializes in investment and leasing. Through Ally-Khan's professional career, he has become well acquainted with owner user properties and sale leasebacks scenarios. Since becoming a Real Estate Associate in 2005, Ally-Khan's passion for real estate has continued to grow and flourish; he thrives on creating new opportunities. 

Away from work, Ally-Khan is a big family man and there's nothing more important to him than spending time with his family. He is passionate about sports and particularly enjoys golf, soccer, and basketball. He also actively gives back to his community by volunteering at events like the World Partnership Walk.

Mona LeBlanc is a Project Manager for Jaffer's commercial projects in the Greater Edmonton Area. Mona's career at Jaffer started with building operations, where she oversaw day-to-day building operation, equipment checks, preventative and corrective maintenance, contractor liaison and electrical and mechanical troubleshooting for Jaffer’s commercial properties.

Mona possesses a high understanding of building systems and facility maintenance procedures. Her demonstrated ability for problem solving, analytical thinking, and high attention to detail makes her a great asset to Jaffer Group of Companies. Mona holds a 5th and 4th class power engineering certificate from Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), and is currently on her 3rd year as electrical apprentice. She is also pursuing a certificate in project management from NAIT.

Tricia Corcuera

Tricia Corcuera provides support to the Marketing Manager in all marketing and communication activities including the development of strategic marketing plans, proofing creative materials and written documents, writing website content and event planning. Passionate about all things marketing, her previous professional experience includes digital content planning, social media management and branding for the banking, non-profit and software industry.

Tricia also provides day-to-day administrative assistance to many other areas of Jaffer. She is a graduate of the Business Administration - Marketing program from Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) in Edmonton.

Marivic Nicolas is the General Manager of PetroJaffer, the retail division of Jaffer Group of Companies. PetroJaffer consists of six Husky gas stations in the Greater Edmonton Area. Marivic is responsible for maintaining a price book, handling customer issues and concerns, and managing the procurement process. In addition, Marivic also handles staff recruitment and training, as well as implementing a healthy and safe workplace. 

As General Manager, Marivic establishes a good working relationship with vendors and Husky management. Marivic has been in the retail industry since 2000, and with Jaffer since 2008.

Alexandria Parks
Director of Sales and Revenue

Alexandria Parks

Alexandria Parks is responsible for the development, execution, and measurement of strategic and tactical initiatives, as well as inventory management to maximize revenue for all hotels in Phoenix. She liaises with major distribution channels including global distribution systems, central and on-property reservations, website, and third-party Internet sites on increasing hotel occupancy. 

Alexandria helped open Four Points by Sheraton Phoenix South Mountain and worked directly with the Starwood revenue team to increase revenues. Alexandria has worked with a number of brands and independent hotels on the operations side, ranging from Hilton Hotels and Resorts to a full service resort with over 600 rooms. Alexandria is currently a Certified Hospitality Supervisor through the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AH&LA).

Kirtesh Mehta

Kirtesh Mehta

Kirtesh Mehta leads all renovations and new constructions from inception to completion for the U.S. division of Jaffer Hospitality Group.  Additionally, Kirtesh aids in the oversight of the U.S. operations.  He oversees the portfolio of hotels and assets in Phoenix, Arizona to ensure compliance to internal and external standards, as well as building a cohesive team to ensure the division’s success and growth.

Kirtesh has several years of experience in the hospitality industry that lead him through various roles within operations and progressed into real estate and development. He liaises with industry professionals to be fully informed of all opportunities and threats in the market in order to make sound decisions in all aspects of the business. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business, is a Certified Hotel Owner (CHO) from Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) and has a Certification in Hospitality Operations from the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA).
